Weighbridges that dot the Kenya –Uganda highway have for long borne the silent reputation of underhand dealings and blatant corruption. If that was only a reputation, then tonight the mask came off exposing a thriving network of wrongdoing. A sting operation at the Mariakani weighbridge by officials form the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission caught the corruption networks by surprise and the scene was literally teeming with flying banknotes and one abandoned police firearm. 6 workers including one policeman were arrested as the rest took to their heels moments after the anti-corruption squad landed on the scene. A total of Ksh. 184, 000 was recovered from the six suspects.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga last night thanked the US government for its role in promoting democratic ideals in the country. The PM told a cocktail party hosted for visiting members of the National Democratic Institute NDI that the US was instrumental in creating civic awakening in the country that culminated with the promulgation of a new constitution. The Premier however cautioned Kenyans not to relent in their quest for a just and ideal society but push for the enactment of legislations required to anchor and make the new constitution operational within the set time frame. The NDI committee members jetted into the country earlier in the week for a special board meeting in acknowledgment of Kenya’s democratic strides.

Marijuana, canabis sativa, bhang; it goes by a myriad names and just as many are its uses and even more, its abuses. Many times Kenyans have witnessed the seizure of the illicit weed on roadblocks or sometimes in buildings especially of a backstreet kind. And the frequency of such discoveries has sometimes been treated as an ordinary event. But NTV’s John-Allan Namu has spent several months investigating the trade and use of marijuana; an assignment that has taken him to the farms where the weed is planted to the road journey of the route it takes to the market.

After losing to the lowly ranked tiny nation of Guinea Bissau, Harambee Stars landed in Nairobi Wednesdaymorning with a bag of excuses that include a claim by one of the officials that key players had differences on the pitch. But the man who should explain it all retained the all too familiar straight-face ; Twahir Muhiddin sees nothing big in the happenings in Guinea Bissau and is not even contemplating resignation. And as NTV’s Watson Karuma reports, the indifference of the officials and particularly coach Twahir Muhiddin will certainly line up the Harambee Stars for the next sure defeat.
