Uchumi Supermarket makes triumphant comeback

Listed Retail Chain Uchumi supermarkets is coming back to the stock market having learnt painful lessons which it says will keep the firm profitable into the foreseeable future according to the chief executive officer. Uchumi’s CEO Jonathan Ciano told an investor briefing that the new strategy that has seen the firm turn around will also see it scale even greater heights. Uchumi will re-listed at the stock market yesterday, after returning to profitability.

That is the question that is holding the business community on tenterhooks as a massive disagreement has emerged over the validity of the proposed date. And as Alex Mwangi reports, the Finance Minister is set for a showdown with the Parliamentary Budget Committee over the appropriate date for the Budget.

Following resource-based conflicts among member states of the Inter-governmental Authority on Development, IGAD, the consortium is holding a meeting in Mombasa to address the issues. The conference will review effectiveness of the Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism, CEWARN, which focuses on pastoral and related conflicts in cross border areas in member states.
