Local Programming : The Presidential Debate 2013
Some may call it a baby step, but others may well rightly regard it for what it truly is; the proverbial giant leap. The history of Kenya has sometimes been described as a litany of near misses and its political leadership has consistently been seen as a reluctant convert to the culture of transparency and accountability. But all that may indeed be fading away through a series of events and moments that followed the promulgation of the new constitution just over two years ago, on the 27th of august 2010.   and it is that air of the new occasioned by the new constitution that today brought together, in an unprecedented convergence of purpose, the entire media fraternity in Kenya. From the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation KBC the home of channel one and 18 radio stations to the Standard Group the home of KTN and Radio Maisha and to the Royal Media Services that operates Citizen Television and 14-radio station. And from Kass tv, Kass Fm and Capital FM, to the Radio Africa Group that runs Kiss tv and radio, as well as The Star newspaper, to the twin towers of the Nation Media Group and the base of operations for the Daily Nation, Ntv, Qtv, Qfm, Easy FM and the business daily among other dailies – the entire media fraternity is tonight firmly united in purpose and coordinated in intent. And the unity of purpose is first all about our country Kenya and indeed all about the unprecedented joint project of staging and broadcasting simultaneously the country’s first ever-presidential debate ahead of the 2013 elections.
